Smartlabs revamped DRM for Cyprian Primetel

Limassol, 31.01,2025 – Smartlabs announced today that it has delivered Smartlabs’ Universal DRM solution to Primetel in order to replace legacy DRM software and enhance Primetel’s service with new features.

The Smartlabs’ UDRM solution supports both Widevine and FairPlay DRM systems, ensuring that content remains protected no matter how it’s accessed. Supporting both Widevine and Fairplay DRM schemes normally forces an operator to purchase enough hardware to store every piece of recorded content twice.

Thanks to on-the-fly re-encryption, with SmartLabs UDRM only one copy is required. Content is recorded in MPEG-DASH and encrypted with Widevine but when recorded content is requested from an iOS device, the recorded content is re-formatted in real time to HLS and re-encrypted in real time with FairPlay. ​

This innovative solution not only enables Primetel to continue to offer premium content to their customers by encrypting content with market leading DRM solutions, it also reduces the investment in storage required to seamlessly support all devices.
